An official assignment for Eizenkot... and Lebanon is at the top of the priorities at this stage

The head of the Yashar Party, Gadi Eisenkot, pledged to form a national emergency government after he was officially assigned to form the Israeli government, stressing that the country is in urgent need of a new leadership that will go beyond the specter of repeated elections, in light of the failure to achieve the goals of the current war.

Eisenkot was appointed by Israeli President Isaac Herzog, after receiving a recommendation from 67 members of the Knesset. Herzog granted the mandate to Eisenkot, stressing the need to form a stable government capable of confronting security challenges and ongoing Iranian threats, in addition to meeting the needs of the Israeli army, combating crime in Arab society, and advancing negotiations with Lebanon. Herzog described Eisenkot as a “fighting soldier” who will lead the country at this critical stage.

For his part, Eisenkot acknowledged that Israel is going through complex circumstances and urgent challenges that make the task of forming a government not easy, considering this stage as a moment of real testing for the Knesset. He explained that his consultations demonstrated the existence of a parliamentary majority that supports change, declaring the door to joining the national emergency government open to everyone who adheres to the four principles he proposed.

Under this assignment, Eisenkot is given a basic period of 28 days to form the government, with the authority to request an additional 14-day extension from President Herzog, amid widespread political anticipation of the extent of his success in translating parliamentary support into an effective government coalition.
