US President Donald Trump announced that his administration is drafting a vision for a new trade agreement with Canada, stressing that the anticipated agreement will achieve qualitative gains for the US economy and the agricultural sector, without revealing additional details about its terms or the time frame for its approval.
Trump’s statements came during his speech to reporters following his arrival in the city of Dubuque, Iowa, where he indicated that he recently held talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss the future of bilateral trade relations.
Trump said in this context: “I spoke to him again, and we have a vision for an agreement that will be great for our farmers, and great for our country, and we will be fine about that,” confining himself to the continued communication and consultation between the two sides regarding the trade file.
These developments come on the sidelines of Trump’s visit to Iowa, where he participated in an election rally hosted by the Five Flags Center in the city of Dubuque, as part of activities supporting the midterm elections.
