Italian Enzo Maresca, coach of Manchester City, is intensifying his efforts to address the individual mistakes that cost his team two consecutive defeats in the English Premier League, on the eve of the expected confrontation against Leipzig in the Champions League, seeking to restore the tone of victories and overcome the recent local stumble.
These moves came after Manchester City suffered its second consecutive loss locally, after losing at its home “Al-Ittihad” stadium to its guest, Brighton, with a clean goal, on Saturday. The only goal of the match was scored by Yassine Ayari, who took advantage of Matthew Nunez’s failure to clear a cross, which was prepared for the Brighton player to head into the net.
These mistakes come as an extension of a series of costly mistakes committed by Gianluigi Donnarumma and Mark Guehi, which resulted in a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa last week.
Commenting on this situation, Maresca said: “Things like this happen sometimes. Unfortunately, they happen to our players, but I think they are part of the game and football. These mistakes have been repeated in our confrontations during the last matches, specifically in the last two or three matches.” He added: “We have to analyze what happened and understand what we can do better, and then try to overcome it.”
These two shocks cast a shadow over Marisca’s strong start with the Sky Club, which saw the team achieve victory in its first seven league matches this season.
The Italian coach confirmed the state of dissatisfaction within the club, saying: “We are certainly not happy. The players, me, the technical staff and the club, no one feels happy at all when we lose matches.” He added, “But we knew that we would not achieve victory in all the matches, so moments like this come. We just have to try to improve things and get through this stage, and strive to achieve victories as soon as possible.”
