The Strait of Hormuz witnessed a notable naval escalation, following the announcement by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Naval Force that a giant oil tanker had been subjected to an explosion resulting from its collision with a sea mine, making it the third ship to suffer the same fate during the day as a result of sailing along an unauthorized route.
The public relations of the Iranian Naval Force explained that the targeted tanker was carrying more than two million barrels of oil, and it was counted as the third to be exposed to an explosion today for the same reason, noting that the ship was left at the entrance to the strait and the fire is still burning until this moment.
Earlier on Friday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that two other oil tankers had stopped and fires had broken out in them as a result of an accident in the strait, indicating that these two tankers had turned off all of their navigation systems and attempted to cross through an unauthorized route with the support of the American army.
In a related context, on Thursday, the British Maritime Trade Operations Authority documented an attack targeting a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz by a small boat that used two explosive devices installed on the ship’s hull, which led to explosions that caused a fire in the engine room and resulted in the ship being temporarily disabled.
The Iranian authorities stress that crossing the Strait must be carried out exclusively in coordination with them, warning against the consequences of using the illegal route and complying with the relevant US measures.
