The power outage at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut entered the forefront of political tensions, against the backdrop of an urgent appeal issued by the airport presidency, which called for a sharp response from MP Jamil Al-Sayyid, who strongly criticized plans to restart Klayaat Airport in light of the inability to provide basic services for the main airport.
In detail, the Beirut Airport Presidency sent an urgent appeal to the Ministry of Energy and the Electricité du Liban, requesting rapid intervention to address the interruption of electrical supply to the airport since Wednesday morning, stressing that navigation traffic and operational operations are currently continuing, relying on backup generators alone.
Representative Jamil Al-Sayyid commented on this development through his account on the “X” platform, strongly criticizing the official performance and denouncing talk about new projects in light of the state’s inability to manage current facilities. He said in his message: “If you are not able to provide electricity to the airport in Beirut, why are you going to build facilities to open Klayaat Airport, while your greatest achievement is an electric train for children?!”
This debate comes in conjunction with the recent return of the Qlayaat Airport file to the spotlight, as part of discussions related to its restart and expansion of the infrastructure of the air transport sector in the country, amid mounting popular and official demands for the need to improve basic equipment and services at Beirut International Airport as a top priority.
