The management of the Rachid Karami International Exhibition in Tripoli has begun a new phase aiming to reactivate its facilities, attract investments, and launch several development projects, most notably a new international exhibition project and the development of the exhibition hotel, as part of an integrated work plan presented to the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, during his official visit to the site.
The President of the Republic was accompanied on his tour by a ministerial delegation that included the Minister of Economy and Trade, Amer Basat, the Minister of the Interior and Municipalities, Ahmed Al-Hajjar, the Minister of Justice, Adel Nassar, and the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamni. They were received by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Exhibition, Hani Shaarani, along with the members of the Board: Laila Shahoud, Hani Shamaa, Jumana Chahal, Bassem Bakhash, Sylvia Yammine, Gabi Khariati, and Lama Alameddine.
During the visit, Shaarani gave a detailed presentation on the most prominent achievements and projects under preparation, highlighting the administration’s vision aimed at enhancing the economic, cultural and development role of the exhibition. The work plan includes activating events, developing revenues, and shifting towards renewable energy, as well as developing financial and administrative performance, implementing maintenance and rehabilitation work, and expanding the scope of partnerships with academic and economic institutions and municipalities.
The projects being prepared also included modernizing the internal and investment systems, enhancing governance, and preparing to organize an international exhibition in the city of Tripoli, in addition to offering various investment opportunities, the first tenders for which were launched to invest and develop the exhibition hotel. This vision aims to activate the exhibition spaces and attract projects in the sectors of culture, education, innovation, craft industries, tourism, sports, exhibitions and conferences, in a way that contributes to creating job opportunities and supporting development in Tripoli and the northern region, in parallel with preserving the architectural identity of the exhibition and its global heritage value.
At the conclusion of the visit, President Joseph Aoun praised the efforts of the exhibition management and its level of professional performance, praising the progress achieved in developing its business and activating its facilities despite limited capabilities. For his part, Minister Amer Basat praised the work of the Board of Directors and its tireless efforts to advance the exhibition and develop its performance.
It is noteworthy that the Rashid Karami International Gallery is one of the most prominent architectural landmarks in the city of Tripoli, and in 2023 it was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, making the task of developing and investing in it governed by a precise equation that balances between reviving its economic role and preserving it as a global architectural heritage.
