The launch of the foldable iPhone Duo phone, which sold for about $2,000 and reached customers on October 23, faced technical challenges, represented by reports of cracks in the internal screen after folding and opening it a few times.
These reports, which appeared in circulated images, including content from Chinese online forums, raised questions about the durability of the hinge and the foldable screen, especially with the damage concentrated in close locations along the fold line, which leads to suspicion of the possibility of a defect in the design, despite the lack of conclusive evidence yet of the comprehensiveness of the problem or the unity of its cause across all devices.
In an incident documented by the “Arabiya Business” website, citing the specialized “Android Authority” website, an Australian user reported that his phone’s screen was cracked only about 6 hours after purchase, and with less than 20 unlocks. Apple responded quickly by replacing the device with another immediately in its store, with the user expressing his dissatisfaction with the phone breaking down on its first day.
