Tehran is at a crossroads and Washington is intensifying its pressure on Kyiv and European capitals

US President Donald Trump escalated his diplomatic and political tone regarding several major international files at the same time, including the war in Ukraine, the Iranian file, and the escalating unrest on the European continent, issuing sharp warning messages to Kiev and European capitals, coinciding with his indication that Washington is close to making a “final decision” regarding Tehran.

In televised statements broadcast by the Al Arabiya network, Trump confirmed that Russia was showing a desire to “achieve an agreement,” calling on the Ukrainian authorities to accept an end to the conflict, and warning of the repercussions of what he described as “bad” if calm was refused. He stressed the need for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to work to reach a settlement that stops the war, criticizing what he described as the United States providing significant support to Kiev “without receiving anything in return.”

This position comes in the context of intense pressure exerted by Trump to push Kyiv towards the negotiating table. On Tuesday, he stated the necessity of Ukraine’s actual desire to bear the burden of war, coinciding with talks held by his envoy, Steve Witkoff, with Zelensky in the Norwegian capital, Oslo, to discuss the settlement path.

On the Iranian level, Trump indicated that the US administration is in the process of “making a final decision regarding Iran and determining the means of victory,” in a position that reflects the continued state of tension between Washington and Tehran, and the faltering diplomatic paths amid the Iranian side’s adherence to its conditions for resuming comprehensive negotiations.

The American President’s messages were not limited to these two arenas, as he directed sharp criticism at European policies, warning European capitals of the necessity of “changing their approach, otherwise there will be nothing left of them.” Trump singled out France, considering that the protests, violence, and arrests taking place in its cities and putting pressure on its government represent “more than just protests,” stressing – in a previous reference – that what is happening reflects a deeper crisis related to immigration, security, and the decline of the European continent, according to what was reported by Le Monde newspaper.

The latest package of statements reflects a complex intersection in the strategic calculations of Washington, which is exerting double pressure to force Ukraine to settle with Moscow, and is preparing to decide its options regarding the Iranian file, in addition to escalating its criticism of the European model in managing internal crises and the security and immigration files.
