The Ministry of Economy issues 16 reports against violating generators within 48 hours

The Ministry of Economy and Trade continues its strict monitoring campaigns against owners of private generators, with the aim of controlling violations related to official pricing, invoices, fixed fees, and meters, in response to repeated complaints from subscribers regarding the cost of consumption and the mechanism for calculating it.

In this context, two field trips carried out by the Ministry’s patrols on Monday, October 12 and Wednesday, October 14, 2026 resulted in the filing of 16 arrest reports against violators in the southern suburb of Beirut and its environs.

In Monday’s round, the Ministry’s patrols wrote 10 arrest reports in the areas of Al-Laylaki, Hay Al-Salam, Choueifat, Burj Al-Barajneh, and the American neighborhood. The observed violations varied between failure to adhere to the official pricing issued by the Ministry of Energy and Water, charging fixed fees in violation, and refraining from providing subscribers with invoices or financial receipts. The violations also included issuing invoices in US dollars or other undetailed bills, in addition to filing a report in absentia against the owner of a generator in the American neighborhood. In the same context, the Ministry took a pledge from the owner of a generator in the Madi neighborhood to adhere to the approved exchange rate, while the commitment of one of the generators included in the inspection was recorded.

As for Wednesday’s tour, the Ministry’s patrols continued their campaign with the support of the State Security Service in the areas of Al-Kafaat, Tahouitet Al-Ghadir, Al-Jamous, the Airport-Bir Hassan Road, and Al-Shiyah, where the tour led to the writing of 6 additional arrest reports. Inspections revealed that the owner of a generator in Al-Kafa’a charged a price of 70 cents per kilowatt-hour, in addition to violations in the fixed fee and issuing invoices in dollars. The procedures also included issuing a report in absentia against the owner of a generator in Al-Jamous for violating the pricing, and a report against the owner of a generator in Chiyah for not completing the installation of meters and violating the fixed fee, while the examination proved the compliance of 3 generators in the areas of Al-Jamous, Furn Al-Chebbak, and Al-Ghobeiry.

The Ministry of Economy and Trade confirmed that its monitoring campaigns are continuing to eradicate violations and take the maximum legal measures against manipulators, to protect the rights of subscribers and enforce compliance with the decisions regulating the sector. These measures are of great importance in light of the dependence of a large segment of citizens on private generators to secure electricity, which makes control of prices and meters a fundamental pillar of consumer protection.

In conclusion, the Ministry renewed its call to citizens to participate effectively under the slogan “Every Citizen is a Watchdog,” and to report any violations through its electronic application “MoET Digital Services” or by calling the Consumers Association-Lebanon hotline at 01750650.
