The US State Department confirmed that reports about Hezbollah receiving Iranian funds to support its activities are false, noting that the party relies for its funding on organized crime networks, especially drug trafficking and partnerships with gangs in Latin America.
A US State Department spokesman described the party’s recent statements as a “false declaration” aimed at saving face and restoring its damaged reputation, questioning the absence of any actual role for its aid to those affected by the war, into which he described dragging Lebanon as a “suicidal” act. He considered that any funds available to the party were being used to buy weapons, threaten Israel, and terrorize opponents, stressing that its arsenal had left Lebanon nothing but misery and destruction.
In a related context, the spokesman revealed American efforts, in cooperation with partners in the Gulf and Europe, to provide billions of dollars allocated for the reconstruction of Lebanon, stressing that this aid is conditional on disarming the party as a step before achieving peace and stability.
The US State Department stressed that the “tripartite framework” remains the only possible path to achieving sustainable security for Lebanon and Israel, stressing Washington’s commitment to continue supporting this path in a way that serves the stability of the region and prevents the recurrence of conflict, and is consistent with President Donald Trump’s agenda aimed at promoting regional peace, considering that disarming Hezbollah is an indispensable cornerstone of this process.
