Lebanese leader Walid Jumblatt stressed the importance of standing by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, recalling long historical milestones of support that Riyadh provided to Lebanon in the most severe crises, against the backdrop of the recent escalation and attacks that targeted vital facilities and airports in the Kingdom, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which resulted in casualties and injuries and affected air traffic.
In a tweet published today, Monday, through his account on the “X” platform, Jumblatt said: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has historically stood with Lebanon at the height of difficulties, and the relationship of Lebanon and the Lebanese with the Kingdom goes back many decades, even to the beginnings of its inception.” He added that the Kingdom “today is exposed to great dangers, so we must show solidarity with it above all else and without hesitation.”
Jumblatt’s position comes at a time when the region is witnessing a field escalation represented by a series of missile and drone attacks targeting the Kingdom’s lands, coinciding with a wave of Lebanese, Arab and international positions in solidarity with Riyadh, amid increasing warnings of the danger of the widening of the confrontation and its direct repercussions on the security of the Gulf and the stability of the region.
Jumblatt’s call gains special significance given the specificity of the extended historical relations between Lebanon and the Kingdom, which witnessed prominent political, economic and diplomatic roles in support of Beirut through various stages, which places his position in the context of emphasizing the stability of these ties in light of a very sensitive regional circumstance.
