US President Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday that he had just been informed of the attack that targeted King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, stressing that he would make a decision regarding this development.
This came in statements made by Trump to reporters before his departure for the city of Clarksville in the state of Tennessee. In response to a question about the situation in Iran, he merely said: “We will look into the matter,” without revealing further details about the nature of the expected step.
Trump’s position comes in the wake of the Saudi General Civil Aviation Authority’s announcement, on Saturday evening, that King Khalid International Airport was subjected to an attack this afternoon, in light of what it described as “the continuation of blatant attacks targeting civil aviation facilities in the Kingdom.” The authority reported that the attack resulted in casualties that are being determined, announcing the temporary suspension of operational operations at the airport until the damage assessment is completed and the safety of the facilities is verified in coordination with the relevant authorities.
In a separate file, the US President escalated his tone towards his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, considering that he could have ended the war with Russia on several occasions, but he preferred not to do so. Trump accused Zelensky of creating crises for the United States and the world by targeting Russian oil refineries, demanding that these attacks stop immediately, and called on the Ukrainian people to choose a new leadership capable of concluding a settlement agreement.
These political and field developments come in the wake of concluding a diesel supply agreement with Russia, after Zelensky ignored about six American requests demanding that he stop attacks on Russian refineries, according to what the Axios website reported, quoting an American official familiar with the discussions.
