The European Union announced the allocation of an additional 10 million euros to support the humanitarian response in Lebanon, and to meet the increasing needs of those affected by the war, displaced families, and those returning to their areas.
This announcement came during the reception by the Minister of Social Affairs, Hanin Al-Sayyed, of a high-level delegation from the European Commission’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO), headed by Deputy Director General Hans Das, and in the presence of the head of ECHO’s office in Lebanon, Michele Cisek, and the case officer, Maria Fabregas y Gonzalez.
Minister Haneen Al-Sayed welcomed the new European support, stressing its extreme importance in light of the continuing humanitarian pressures and escalating field needs, specifically to support the affected people, the displaced and the returnees.
The meeting discussed prospects for enhancing joint cooperation between the two sides in the sectors of humanitarian response, protection, and social cohesion, as well as ways to support the most vulnerable groups to raise the Lebanese state’s ability to confront current humanitarian challenges.
