The scope of the security investigations in Israel is expanding against the backdrop of a shooting incident that occurred in the city of Ashkelon, and it was later revealed that it targeted an official car belonging to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, inside which was the son of one of his drivers, carrying a licensed pistol.
According to a report by journalist Alon Hachmon published by the Maariv newspaper, the police arrested 9 suspects as part of the investigations, including Shalom Domrani and his son, Ron Hamias, Eliakim Vauda, and Matanya Asayag. Seven of those arrested were later released, including Shalom Domrani and his son, while only two people remain in detention: Eliran Tzaida and Elias Shlomo, who are believed to be linked to the Eliraz Revah group.
The threads of the case go back to the night between the first and second of October, when the police received a report at 02:03 am indicating the presence of a suspicious “Skoda” car. At approximately 02:40, another report was received about a “Skoda” car carrying four suspects that arrived at a checkpoint, accompanied by another “Mazda” vehicle driven by Ron Hamias, where security personnel quickly arrested a number of suspects and later an additional suspect.
Documents submitted to the court showed that the investigations are focusing on examining the suspects’ connection to the vehicles found during the night and their connection to the shooting incident. The police confirmed to the judiciary that the investigations are still in their early stages, considering that releasing the suspects may harm the investigative procedures and raise fears of obstructing them, at a time when they filed appeals against the Magistrate Court’s decisions to release some detainees before the vast majority of them were subsequently released.
The case is particularly sensitive given that the father, who works as a driver for the Prime Minister, had previously testified in the judicial files related to Netanyahu, which places the investigation that began as a criminal shooting incident in Ashkelon to broader dimensions that affect prominent figures in the world of crime and a car that belongs directly to the Prime Minister’s Office.
