The report warns that the penalty of relegation will trigger a stifling financial crisis, especially since the club collected about 248.9 million pounds last season from Premier League and Champions League prizes, compared to only about 5.7 million pounds annually that Championship League clubs receive from broadcasting rights. This crisis comes in light of the rise in the wage bill, which amounted to 408.4 million pounds in the 2024-2025 season, and is likely to reach about 450 million after new contracts, compared to commercial revenues amounting to 340.4 million pounds in the same season.

In the same context, the report quoted a former sports director in the English Premier League as saying that City may have to pay parts of the transferred players’ salaries if the new club is unable to cover them in full. He would bear the difference if the player received 200,000 pounds per week and the new club offered only 150,000.
