Representative Jamil Al-Sayyid attributed his position in defense of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s visit to Nabatieh, considering that the evaluation of any step must be based on its content and its impact on citizens, away from the identity of its initiator or political differences.
Al-Sayyed explained, in an explanatory statement against the backdrop of the controversy sparked by his previous praise of the Prime Minister’s tour in the south, that the right of some to express their anger towards peace is legitimate, but he stressed the necessity of separating the personal political position from evaluating positive steps. He said: “In any right or good action, look at what was done and not at who did it,” stressing that rejecting any useful measure simply because of disagreement with its doer is contrary to the interest of citizens.
Al-Sayed pointed out that the services and projects announced during the visit to strengthen the steadfastness of the people are not “out of anyone’s pocket,” but rather are at the core of the state’s basic duties and responsibilities towards its people.
This position comes in the context of an attempt to establish the basis of separation between the political debate and the evaluation of government field performance, especially in the regions of the south, where development, services, and rehabilitation issues top the priorities of residents and local authorities alike.
