“Al-Riyadi Beirut” club moved one step closer to the title after achieving its second victory in the final round of the West Asia Basketball League “WASL” championship, after defeating “Al-Kuwait Al-Kuwait” with a score of 83-82 in a very exciting match hosted by the Nihad Nofal Complex. The match was decided in the final breath thanks to a free throw scored less than a second before the final whistle.
The Lebanese team witnessed a relatively slow start, which allowed the Kuwait club to end the first quarter with a 17-15 lead. However, the Lebanese champion gradually regained control, seizing a one-point lead at the end of the first half, 36-35.
The two teams continued the close performance and score during the third quarter, which ended in favor of Al-Riyadi 59-58. The scorching heat continued until the final moments of the decisive fourth quarter, before the Lebanese team succeeded in maintaining its slim lead until the end of the match by one point.
On the individual level, player Donovan Kennedy Williams stood out among the athlete, achieving a “double-double” by scoring 34 points and 10 rebounds, and his teammate Haik Gyukkian contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Amir Saud added 12 points and 7 rebounds.
It is noteworthy that the athlete had begun his tournament campaign with a wide victory over the Indian “Indian Railways” with a score of 104-81, and he will play his third match in the tournament against the Saudi “Al-Ittihad” on Wednesday, September 30, at 8:45 pm Beirut time.
