The Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, discussed with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani, several political, economic and security files, focusing on reducing the regional escalation and enhancing Qatari support for Lebanon, especially in the energy and electricity sectors and supporting the Lebanese army.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Prime Minister’s participation in the work of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he will hold a series of bilateral meetings with international officials and leaders before moving to Washington, DC.
The talks were attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Yousef Raji, and the Minister of State in the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al-Khulaifi. The two sides discussed the latest regional developments, stressing the need to intensify efforts to contain the escalation, preserve the security and stability of the Gulf states and the region, and avoid further confrontations.
The two sides reviewed bilateral relations and ways to develop them, with President Salam expressing his thanks to the State of Qatar for always standing by Lebanon. The research also touched on the possibility of expanding the horizons of joint cooperation, especially in the energy and electricity sectors, for their vital role in alleviating the living burdens of the Lebanese, in parallel with the government’s efforts to develop production and restructure the sector.
The meeting also discussed ways to enhance economic and investment cooperation, in addition to supporting efforts aimed at achieving recovery and advancing the reconstruction process in Lebanon, in addition to ways to enhance the capabilities of the Lebanese army.
