The French judicial and security authorities opened a sensitive file following the arrest of a 35-year-old police officer, on suspicion of adopting an extremist and violent right-wing ideology and planning to carry out attacks targeting state interests, in addition to his possible involvement in manufacturing weapons using 3D printing technology.
According to sources close to the investigation, the policeman – who was off-duty – was stopped on the public road on August 23, and was subsequently placed in pre-trial detention. On the 27th of the same month, formal charges were brought against him, and the file was referred to an investigating judge to follow up on the procedures and determine the nature of the plan and expected goals.
A judicial source confirmed the accuracy of information reported by the “TF1/LCI” network, stating that the suspect faces charges of individual preparation for a terrorist act within cases of violent extremism, manufacturing or trading in Class A and B weapons without a license, in addition to possession of unlicensed weapons, and charges related to incitement via social media platforms.
Investigations are still underway to clarify the circumstances of the case and determine the progress of the supposed plan, while no comment was issued by the suspect’s lawyer as of Thursday evening.
This case coincides with a state of widespread controversy that France has witnessed recently, against the backdrop of an incident in which a municipal policeman in the city of Carcassonne was involved in uttering racist and sexist statements during a patrol dating back to November 2025, which was monitored by a camera installed on his body. This policeman was linked to the security service of the “National Rally” party, which in turn announced his expulsion from its ranks and from its security apparatus immediately after the recordings spread.
