The people of the Western Line in the Boqaa Plain in Akkar appealed to the concerned authorities for urgent intervention to address the sewage crisis that has been ongoing for more than a month and a half, stressing that stagnant water is still flooding the roads and affecting the vicinity of a school and crops in the area, despite the issuance of an official decision to address the problem.
According to residents, sewage collects on the roads, especially in the vicinity of Martyr Walid Eido High School, causing the spread of odors and pollution and raising their concerns about the health of residents and students.
They pointed out that the repercussions of the crisis led to the postponement of students’ registration in school, while they reported that a number of children suffered from skin rashes, calling on the competent health authorities to inspect the area and take the necessary measures.
Residents pointed out that sewage also reached a number of crops and caused damage to them.
They pointed out that the Minister of Energy, Joe Seddi, and the Minister of Agriculture, Nizar Hani, saw, during their tour in Akkar in recent days, the reality of the region and the existing problem.
In the background of the case, the Governor of Akkar, Imad Al-Labaki, had issued a decision on August 27, 2026, against the backdrop of the leakage of sewage in the town of Al-Muqabila, after a field inspection conducted by the municipality showed the leakage of large quantities of stagnant water onto public roads.
According to the decision, it was found that the problem resulted from a number of citizens connecting their home networks to an impermeable and broken public sewer line, which led to water leaking onto the roads.
The governor urgently referred the file to the Northern Regional Gendarmerie Command, requesting that the necessary measures be taken in coordination with Al-Muqabila Municipality Policeman Bilal Ajili.
The procedures included informing the owners of the violating homes, according to an attached list of names, and giving them a 20-day period to remove the illegal connections from the public line.
The decision also stipulated that measures be taken to remove the violating connections with security support in the event that the deadline expires without implementing what is required, in addition to keeping the file under follow-up with the Gendarmerie Command and conducting a new field examination to take appropriate measures.
However, residents confirm that sewage water is still flowing into the roads, calling on the governor of Akkar, municipalities, security forces, and concerned parties to implement the decision and address the problem urgently.
The families stressed their demand to ensure a clean environment, safe roads, and a healthy environment for children and school students, wondering why the decision issued on August 27 has not been implemented until today.
