1000 people were executed .. What is going on in Iran?

United Nations human rights experts said they are dismayed about the “dramatic escalation” in the number of executions in Iran, where more than a thousand people were killed during the first nine months of 2025.

In a joint statement, the experts warned that “the huge size of the executions in Iran is amazing and represents a serious violation of the right to life.”
Experts pointed out that half of the well -known executions were due to drug crimes, and that nine executions of hanging daily were documented in recent weeks.
There was no immediate comment from Iran, but the government previously defended its use of the death penalty, saying it is limited to “the most dangerous crimes.” This comes on the same day when Iran declared the execution of a man accused of spying in favor of Israel.
The Mizan News Agency of the Judicial Authority stated that the accused was named Bahman Shoubi Asal, and reported that he was an expert in databases and worked in “sensitive contact projects” and was “reliable spy” for the Israeli Mossad intelligence service, without providing any evidence.

And the eleventh man who is executed in Iran this year on charges of espionage for Israel, where 10 executions have been carried out since the 12 -day war between the two countries in June. (BBC)
