Raging escalation in the West Bank: storming a university campus and expelling farmers from their lands

Today, Monday, various areas of the West Bank witnessed a large-scale Israeli campaign of incursions that affected universities, towns, villages, and agricultural lands, and included demolition, detention, arrest, and confiscation operations, as part of the Israeli forces expanding their field movements.

In Ramallah, Israeli forces stormed the campus of Birzeit University, accompanied by a military bulldozer, and demolished and seized a edifice dedicated to the university’s martyrs, in addition to detaining a member of the university’s security. Members of the Israeli army also arrested a member of the Palestinian Authority’s security services, after raiding the city with large military reinforcements. In the same context, an Israeli force stormed the town of Turmus Ayya, north of Ramallah, and prevented citizens from reaching their agricultural lands.

In Nablus Governorate, Israeli forces launched a campaign of raids in the village of Osrin, south of the governorate, during which they expelled farmers from their lands. In a separate incident, a number of settlers stormed the Al-Haraiq area in the town of Beita, south of Nablus, and confiscated olives that farmers had harvested from their lands.

As for the south of the West Bank, an Israeli force arrived at the vicinity of the residents’ homes in Khallet al-Humus in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron. In the northern West Bank, the Israeli army sent military reinforcements towards the town of Tammoun, south of Tubas, and carried out a raid campaign that targeted a number of homes.

These developments on the ground come in light of the continuing tension in the West Bank, and the increase in raids and arrests, in parallel with repeated Palestinian complaints of restrictions on access to agricultural lands and the high frequency of settler attacks, especially during the olive harvest season, which brings to the fore fears of a widening scope of tension as a result of the intersection of Israeli military operations with restrictions imposed on the movement of residents and farmers.
