The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, considered that targeting the Lebanese army in the recent Israeli raid constitutes an attack on all of Lebanon, calling on the international community to go beyond statements of condemnation and take practical steps to stop the Israeli attacks.

Bassil wrote on his account on the “X” platform: “When the army is targeted, the targeting affects all of Lebanon.”

He added, “The martyrdom of officers and a number of soldiers in an Israeli raid is a direct aggression against the state, its institutions, its people, and its army.”

Bassil criticized international positions regarding the recent developments, considering that “the international community must stop being content with condemning while Israel continues to violate all conventions and resolutions.”

Bassil’s statements came after the Israeli raid that targeted a Lebanese army military vehicle on the Kafr Tibnit – Al-Khardali road in the Nabatieh district, and resulted in the martyrdom of two officers with the ranks of brigadier general, captain and soldier, according to what the army command announced in an official statement.

The President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, and a number of Lebanese officials condemned the attack, considering it a violation of Lebanese sovereignty and international laws, while the army leadership stressed that targeting the military institution will not deter it from continuing to perform its national duties.

Targeting the Lebanese army is considered one of the most sensitive issues in light of the continuing escalation in the south, where Israeli attacks continue in conjunction with political and diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing the ceasefire and preventing the situation from sliding into a broader confrontation.
