The company said, according to Reuters, that incognito chats will rely on special processing technology, which ensures that conversations remain invisible to any party, including Meta itself.
She added in a post on her blog: “Your conversations are not saved, and your messages disappear automatically, giving you space to think and explore ideas without anyone watching you.”
The move comes at a time when users are sharing personal, financial, health, or professional information with artificial intelligence assistants, amid growing questions about how companies store or use this data.
WhatsApp President Will Cathcart said that people have begun asking important questions about their lives to artificial intelligence systems, adding that information related to these questions should not always be shared with the companies that manage these systems.
The company’s website indicated that “Meta” uses the messages that users share with “Meta AI” to improve artificial intelligence models, while personal conversations on “WhatsApp” remain protected by end-to-end encryption and cannot be accessed for this purpose.
Cathcart explained that incognito chat is currently limited to text, which means users will not be able to upload images within it.
He also confirmed that artificial intelligence will include built-in security controls, allowing it to refuse to answer problematic questions or direct conversations in different paths.
Meta also plans to launch the Side Chat feature with Meta AI in the coming months, allowing users to get private help within any WhatsApp conversation. (Al Ain)
