According to the report published by the technical website “The Information”, Meta is developing a smart agent inspired by the OpenClaw platform, and it currently bears the code name “Hatch.”
It is expected that the agent will work within the company’s applications, allowing, for example, smart shopping via Instagram, in addition to supporting other external services.
The report indicated that Meta tested “Hatch” on simulations of external services such as DoorDash, Reddit, and Microsoft Outlook, due to the company’s desire to expand the capabilities of its agents outside its own platforms.
Meta also plans to use the new agent to compete with the tiktok Shop service; Instagram users will be able to purchase products featured in Reels videos more easily through the smart agent. It seems that the company has begun to prepare for this by allowing content makers to add up to 30 products within a single video.
During the announcement of the company’s recent financial results, Zuckerberg indicated his great interest in artificial intelligence agents as part of the company’s ambitions in the field of “superintelligence.” He also described the OpenClaw platform as “interesting,” but he saw that its use was still complex for most users. He stressed that Meta seeks to develop agents that are easy to use, can understand the user’s goals, and work continuously to help him achieve them.
The report also revealed that Meta tried to attract the developer of the OpenClaw open source platform, which gained widespread popularity at the beginning of this year within artificial intelligence circles, but he later joined OpenAI.
Instead, Zuckerberg successfully acquired Moltbook, an AI agent platform that briefly generated widespread interest.
Intelligent meta agents are not expected to be released soon; The report indicates that the company aims to launch the new tools towards the end of this year, and Meta is currently testing agents using models from Anthropic instead of its own models, and will move in the future to operating them through its new Muse Spark model.
