(Reef) software development company filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple for removing the (Reef) application for watching video clips from its application store after launching the competing (SharePlay) feature.

The lawsuit filed in the US Federal Court in New Jersey said that Reef, which is based in Ontario, Canada, is seeking re-listing on the App Store and damages “in the amount of hundreds of millions of dollars.”

Apple said in a statement, “We reject these baseless allegations. The Reef application was removed after repeated violations of the guidelines, which we reported to its developer several times. These violations included displaying and sharing pornographic and stolen content, in addition to user complaints regarding child sexual abuse material.”

“Apple’s removal of the Reef app from its App Store under a flimsy pretext has severely impacted consumers by diminishing the range of choices…” Reef CEO Michael Pazaratz said in a statement.

He added, “Apple’s actions deprived users of access to a product they enjoyed…and undermined Reeve’s ability to compete fairly on the strength of its product.”
