US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer confirmed that the United States will reimpose high customs duties on European Union imports if it does not adhere to the terms of the trade agreement before the deadline set on July 4.
Jarir explained in a statement to Fox Business that he had contacts with trade officials in various European countries and with representatives of the European Union during his recent visit to Europe, noting that current indicators show a commitment to implementing pledges, but he stressed that Washington is closely monitoring the situation.
He added that non-compliance would lead to a return to the previous tariff regime imposed on the European Union.
In the same context, US President Donald Trump had set a deadline for the European Union to adhere to the trade agreement reached previously, warning that duties on European goods, including cars, would be raised to higher levels in the event of non-compliance, after a previously reduced rate of 15% had been discussed.
