Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri painted a comprehensive picture of the Lebanese and regional scene in light of the rapid developments related to the ceasefire file and the US-Iranian negotiations, stressing that Lebanon adheres to internal unity and the Arab umbrella, while stressing that any agreement with Israel needs clear guarantees due to its repeated violations.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Berri said that “Israel violated the cessation of hostilities agreement despite Hezbollah’s commitment to it,” considering that “any Lebanese agreement with Israel needs guarantees because it does not abide by its pledges.”

Berri revealed that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi assured them that “Lebanon is part of any ceasefire agreement with Washington,” noting at the same time that there is hope that the Iranian-American negotiations will reach a “positive conclusion soon.”

On the internal level, Berri stressed the importance of political stability, stressing that “the relationship is good with the First Presidency and we have respect for President Joseph Aoun.”

He added: “The relationship between me and the Presidency of the Republic and the Prime Minister is strong and important to stabilize.”

Berri also pointed out that Lebanon “is counting on internal unity and the Arab umbrella in the current circumstances,” in light of the political and security challenges that the country is going through.

Berri’s positions come at a time when regional and international contacts related to the ceasefire file and the ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran are intensifying, in parallel with continued tension on the southern front and repeated Israeli violations.
