This announcement comes after previous Israeli reports dating back to last May, which reported that Al-Beik was targeted in an air strike on Gaza City along with other leaders of the movement, without Hamas confirming his death at the time. Al-Beik assumed command of the North Gaza Brigade, succeeding former commander Ahmed Al-Ghandour, who was martyred in November 2023. He is considered one of the prominent names associated with the military operations of the Al-Qassam Brigades in that region.
In a related context, the Israeli army announced, last Monday, the targeting of Uday Adly Abdel Aser, whom it described as a sniper in the military wing of the Hamas movement, in operations in the southern Gaza Strip.
These field developments coincide with the continuation of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, which were renewed following the resumption of bombing on March 18, following the faltering negotiations aimed at extending the first phase of the ceasefire agreement or moving to its second phase. It is noteworthy that the agreement entered into force on January 19, and its first phase ended on March 1, amid exchange of accusations and disagreements between the two sides regarding the mechanisms and entitlements of the next phase.
