US President Donald Trump confirmed that Iran “agreed on everything” in the context of the ongoing negotiations, declaring that Tehran will cooperate with the United States to withdraw its stock of enriched uranium and transfer it to American territory, while emphasizing the absence of any American ground interference.
In a phone interview with CBS News, Trump confirmed that this operation “will not include any troops on the ground,” adding: “No, no troops. We will go down and take him with them, and then we will move him. We will take him back together, because by then we will have an agreement, and there is no need to fight when there is an agreement. Isn’t that better? We would do it another way if we had to.”
“Our people, with the Iranians, will work together to recover it, and then we will take it to the United States,” he explained, meaning enriched nuclear materials.
Trump also mentioned that Iran also agreed to stop its support for its armed groups, such as Hezbollah and Hamas, considering this as part of the comprehensive understandings between the two parties.
When asked about the expected date for the official announcement of the agreement, he replied that the two sides will meet during the end of this week, stressing that the imposed American blockade will continue “until we get the matter done.”
In response to what the Axios platform reported about the US administration’s study of the possibility of releasing $20 billion in frozen Iranian assets in exchange for handing over its nuclear stockpile, Trump categorically denied this, declaring: “No, we will not pay 10 cents.”
Trump’s statements come amid an intense negotiation process between Washington and Tehran, after the escalation of military and political tensions in recent months due to the Iranian nuclear program and Tehran’s regional role.
Trump had previously stated that the negotiations “have reached a very advanced stage,” and that “there are no sticking points,” expressing his hope that an agreement will soon be reached that will end the dispute and make final arrangements for the nuclear file and navigation security.
He also hinted that the expected agreement would be “good for everyone,” in light of the efforts being made to contain the regional repercussions of the escalation, especially in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
Trump’s statements reflect the trend towards concluding a comprehensive agreement that includes restrictions on the Iranian nuclear program, and special arrangements for Tehran’s regional role, in exchange for stabilizing the calm and preventing the situation from deteriorating into a broader confrontation.
