The field is asserting itself: Beirut is witnessing calm that paves the way for negotiations

The Iranian ISNA news agency reported, citing a statement by the Secretary of the Iranian Media Council, that technical talks have begun between the parties present in the tripartite Islamabad negotiations, in an atmosphere of great interest and seriousness in the discussions.

The Iranian official stated that the Islamabad negotiations were held after ensuring that the attacks on Beirut had stopped, referring to the events that occurred before the start of this round of talks.

He explained that the technical track represents an advanced step in the negotiation, as details related to the outstanding issues are discussed, in an attempt to transform the temporary ceasefire into a more stable agreement.

These statements come at a time when the participating parties confirm that the negotiations are taking place “face to face,” after fulfilling the conditions that were previously set, amid international anticipation and waiting for their results.

For days, the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, has been witnessing intense diplomatic activity with the launch of tripartite negotiations between the United States, Iran, and Pakistan, after the announcement of a temporary two-week truce that ended six weeks of military escalation in the region.

It is noteworthy that the war that began on February 28 included mutual attacks and threats to expand the scope of the conflict, while on April 8, the Pakistani Prime Minister announced that a temporary truce had been reached, opening the way for negotiations.

The success of these negotiations depends on several important issues, including establishing a ceasefire in various regions, including Lebanon, in addition to ensuring the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and resolving the outstanding financial and security problems between Tehran and Washington.

The international community hopes that moving to the technical phase of the negotiation will lead to achieving practical understandings that reduce the possibility of a return to escalation, in light of continued warnings of the weakness of the current truce.
