With the continued intensity of events on the southern front, and in light of international efforts to reduce tension, Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam intensified his political and diplomatic efforts, while at the same time paying attention to the humanitarian situation in the areas adjacent to the border.
In this context, Salam met with the Head and Commander of UNIFIL, Major General Diodato Abagnara, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Youssef Raji. The discussion revolved around how to coordinate work to deliver aid to residents of the southern border villages, in light of the humanitarian difficulties that are increasing due to the current events.
These movements come at a time when Lebanon is witnessing a major military escalation, with air strikes extending to areas in the south, the Bekaa, and Beirut, which has led to increased humanitarian pressures, especially in border villages. In conjunction with this, the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran represents a diplomatic opportunity that Beirut is trying to exploit to establish calm and avoid the country sliding into further escalation, while emphasizing its commitment to International Resolution 1701.
