Google has released a package of new updates to the “Google Maps” application, with the aim of simplifying the sharing of place content, by integrating artificial intelligence technologies that help in writing automatic descriptions of images and videos.
The main feature is based on the Gemini model, which analyzes user-selected photos and automatically suggests a suitable description, while providing the ability to edit or delete this description before publishing it.
According to the TechCrunch website, this feature is currently available in English on iOS devices in the United States, and will be launched later in the rest of the world and on the Android system.
The update was not limited only to automatic description, but also included facilitating the process of selecting images, as the application allows, after obtaining permission to access the media, the latest images and videos to be displayed directly in the contribution section, which speeds up the publishing process.
Moreover, Google has introduced new tools that enable users to track their contributions more accurately, through:
View the total points earned
Clarifying the user level within the “Local Guide” program
Update achievement badges to reflect experience level, such as “Professional Photographer” or “Review Expert”
The most engaged users will be given a unique golden frame for their accounts.
Google Maps relies on a large community of more than 500 million contributors around the world, who provide the application with images and reviews on an ongoing basis.
These updates reflect Google’s move towards using artificial intelligence in daily life, with the aim of improving ease of use and raising the quality of content, especially since users’ opinions have become a decisive factor in decisions to visit places. (Arabic)
