Security sources announced, on Tuesday, the martyrdom of the first qualified member of the House of Representatives Police, Ali Hussein Badran, after his vehicle was targeted on Deir Al-Zahrani Road, in an incident added to the series of escalating security incidents in southern Lebanon.
The “Amal” movement issued a statement saying: “We mourn our leader, His Eminence Imam Sayyed Musa al-Sadr, and our faithful masses, the martyr Ali Hussein Badran, who was martyred in the town of Deir al-Zahrani.”
This incident comes amid an ongoing escalation on the ground, as the southern regions of Lebanon are witnessing intense Israeli air strikes, coinciding with an increase in ground operations and a strengthening of the military presence along the front.
The past few hours have witnessed an escalation in the pace of bombing, amid continuous Israeli warnings and an expansion of the scope of targets, which increases tension and raises fears of a deterioration of the situation towards a broader conflict.
