It seems that the years of waiting have ended for French legend Zinedine Zidane, as press reports indicate that he is close to achieving his dream of coaching the first French national football team, succeeding current coach Didier Deschamps.

Fabrizio Romano, a journalist specializing in transfer news, revealed the existence of a preliminary and verbal agreement between Zidane and the French Football Federation. This agreement stipulates that “Zizou” will officially take over the leadership of the national team after the end of the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to be held this summer in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The source explained that the delay in the official announcement of this agreement comes out of respect for Deschamps’ current mission with the “Roosters” in the World Cup, in order to maintain the team’s focus before the start of this global tournament.

With this agreement, Zidane ends his period of absence from the world of coaching, which began since his departure from Real Madrid in June 2021, as he preferred to lead a “national project” for his country over all the attractive offers he received from major European clubs during the past years.
