Microsoft launched a new beta update for the “Windows 11” operating system, bearing the number (Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.9836), for Beta channel subscribers on October 30, 2026, based on the “Windows 11 25H2” release via an enablement package. The update brings advanced features for controlling application permissions, updates to ease-of-use tools, in addition to addressing A number of technical problems.
With regard to privacy and application permissions, Microsoft has allowed users to manage access permissions to the camera, microphone, and geographic location for each desktop application separately, after previously relying on a unified setting at the device level. Users can control whether to allow or block by going to Settings, then Privacy & Security, and selecting the desired resource. The system will request user approval when any application attempts to use these resources for the first time.
The company confirmed that the update will preserve previous permission decisions; Apps that have been pre-approved will still be able to access resources, while rejected apps will remain blocked. She pointed out that some applications that rely on shared components or browser services may appear under different names, and other applications may be classified as unsigned if their publisher cannot be verified, calling on users to limit granting permissions to trusted applications only.
In terms of the user interface, Microsoft made modifications to the login screen with security keys, including removing the “other user” icon from the interface for entering the personal identification code (PIN) to simplify the process. The improvements also included “File Explorer” by enhancing the clarity of thumbnails in the “Recommended” section of the home page, as well as addressing technical issues that previously led to the failure of customizing mouse settings or resetting screen wallpapers after restarting the device.
In terms of ease-of-use tools, the company has expanded support for the Narrator tool for reading mathematical expressions to include eight new languages: Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Norwegian, Polish, Russian, Swedish, and Vietnamese. It also added a new option in the Magnifier settings that allows you to control its operation via the keyboard shortcut (Windows + (+)), as it remains activated by default with the possibility of disabling it through (Settings > Accessibility > Magnifier) to avoid incorrect operation or conflict with applications, while the manual operation option remains available through the settings.
