Digital security experts warn of the dangers of home Wi-Fi networks being hacked by unauthorized people, stressing that this hacking not only slows down the speed of the Internet and increases data consumption, but also threatens the user’s privacy and exposes their devices to serious security risks.
To detect strange devices connected to the network, it is recommended to enter the router settings, review the list of connected devices and compare it with the actual devices inside the house.
In the same context, changing the network password is the most effective way to expel unwanted users, as this step requires all devices to re-enter the new password to restore the connection. Experts recommend choosing long, complex passwords that are difficult to guess, and activating the “WPA3” encryption protocol if available, or relying on “WPA2” for devices that do not support the latest standard.
The router settings also provide the feature of blocking unknown devices, with the need to note that relying on blocking MAC addresses alone does not guarantee complete protection, due to the possibility of them being modified or spoofed.
The list of additional preventive measures includes: updating the router’s firmware, disabling the “WPS” feature when not needed, shutting down the guest network when not in use, as well as changing the default password for managing the device.
Specialists stress that periodically reviewing connected devices and applying modern security settings are the basic line of defense to limit unauthorized use and ensure complete home network security.
