The Israeli military establishment has raised its alert level to its highest level in anticipation of a possible confrontation with Iran, amid security estimates that any direct attack on Tehran will not be limited to the Iranian front alone, but may simultaneously detonate the Lebanese front, pushing the region towards a long, multi-arena confrontation.
The Israeli channel “i24” reported that the Israeli army has completed all its preparations for the possibility of launching a military strike against Iran, and has placed its forces in a state of maximum readiness amid expectations that any future campaign will be characterized by an extended period of time, while preparing for the possibility of simultaneous exposure to missile bombardment and marches from the northern front.
These developments on the ground come at a sensitive political time within Israel, coinciding with accelerating changes in the United States, which places decision makers before an extremely complex military and political equation, especially since the Lebanese borders have become at the heart of the strategic calculations of any potential escalation.
In a related context, the Israeli Defense Minister, Yisrael Katz, settled the controversy by categorically denying the existence of any intention to launch a pre-emptive attack on Tehran before the Israeli elections, stressing at the same time that Tel Aviv will respond with decisive force if it is exposed to any Iranian attack, and confirming the existence of complete coordination between the government and the military leadership to deny what was recently raised about the existence of tensions between the two parties regarding the timing of the move.
For his part, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir stated that there is currently no operational justification for a pre-emptive strike before the elections, regardless of the emergence of urgent military indicators that require action, while emphasizing the army’s readiness to carry out any attack whenever the operational need arises.
The Iranian file remains a top priority for Israeli national security amid an escalation in the language of mutual warnings, so that Israel remains between complete field preparedness and the absence of a decisive political decision, anticipating the moment when the threats may turn into an actual confrontation on the ground.
