Within the framework of its new initiative “Une Nouvelle Perspective”, which aims to introduce its members to strategic sites and institutions in Lebanon, a delegation from the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Lebanon (CCI France Liban), headed by the Chamber’s President Maxence Dieu, conducted an official visit to the port of Beirut, where it was received by the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General Marwan Al-Nafi.
The visit included a field tour during which the French delegation was briefed on work mechanisms, operations, and various aspects of port activity, in addition to examining the vital role that the port plays in stimulating economic and commercial activity at the local and regional levels.
Following the tour, the two sides held a discussion session, which Marwan Al-Nafy began by presenting a comprehensive presentation that covered the history of the Port of Beirut, its strategic importance, and the deep historical ties that unite it with France. He also touched on the current transformations in the maritime transport and ports sector, reviewing the development projects implemented by the administration, noting that a number of them have already moved from the planning stage to implementation.
Al-Nafi explained that these projects fall within a comprehensive vision that aims to expand the port’s operational capabilities, modernize its operations, and enhance its position on the map of regional and international trade and transport, especially in light of the changes taking place in global trade corridors, most notably the “India-Middle East-Europe” corridor (IMEC), as well as focusing on developing logistical connectivity to dedicate the port’s role as a pivotal logistical center in the region.
For his part, Maxence Dew expressed his appreciation for the good reception, stressing the importance of this visit in allowing a closer look at the reality of work in the port. He also stressed the importance of dialogue and direct exchange, reiterating the Chamber’s commitment to continuing to strengthen bilateral communication and cooperation on various issues of common interest.
