Google Maps launches the offline rescue feature...this is how you can benefit from it

The Google Maps application provides a vital advantage for travelers and vehicle drivers in remote areas, which is the ability to access maps and follow routes accurately even if the Internet connection is cut off.

The “Offline Maps” feature relies on downloading a map of the target area in advance and saving it on the smartphone, allowing users to review roads and streets and obtain driving instructions without the need for the Internet. The importance of this feature is especially evident when driving on mountain roads or traveling through areas with weak coverage, in addition to its effective role in rationalizing mobile phone data consumption.

Activation mechanism
Users can activate this feature by following simple steps that include: opening the “Google Maps” application while connected to the Internet, clicking on the profile picture, choosing “Offline Maps,” then selecting the area to be saved and clicking the “Download” option. Once the download is complete, the map is ready to use when the Internet is out, provided that the entire route falls within the saved area.

Usage restrictions
Although this feature is effective, it does not completely replace connectivity, as it lacks some advanced services such as: live traffic updates, road closure information, alternative routes related to congestion, as well as the absence of walking, cycling and public transportation guidance when there is no Internet.

In this context, directors and drivers are advised to download the necessary maps in advance before starting the trip, making sure they include the destination and arrival route, and making sure to update them periodically to ensure smooth movement and avoid any potential obstacles.
