October 13, 2026

The head of the “Free Patriotic Movement,” MP Gebran Bassil, linked the anniversary of October 13, 1990 to the movement scheduled to be commemorated on Saturday, October 17, 2026, considering that the two events targeted Baabda Palace and the Center for Legitimacy as part of attempts to undermine the “Freedom, Sovereignty, and Independence Movement.”
In a post on his account on the “X” platform on Tuesday, Bassil said: “We commemorate October 13, 1990, Saturday, October 17, 2026, to link the two dates; the first was military and the second was economic.” He added, “The two targeted Baabda Palace, the center of legitimacy, to undermine the movement of freedom, sovereignty, and independence,” noting that “both times, they were humiliated and we had dignity, so we continued.”
Bassil concluded his post by announcing that the movement would continue to expand its popular base, noting that 1,211 new members had joined its ranks during the current year.
It is noteworthy that the anniversary of October 13 documents the events of 1990, which witnessed a military attack on Lebanese army positions in the areas then under the command of General Michel Aoun, and resulted in the entry of Syrian forces into Baabda Palace and other areas.
