The Italian club Juventus escalated its legal dispute with its former star, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, currently a player for Al-Nasr Saudi Arabia, after he filed an official appeal before the Italian Court of Cassation, seeking to cancel the judicial ruling requiring him to pay 9.8 million euros to the Portuguese striker, representing late financial dues.
The Italian newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport” reported that the club’s management is determined to continue its legal path despite the issuance of a previous decision by the arbitration panel in favor of the player and its judicial support, pointing out that Juventus is awaiting setting the date of the next judicial session to consider the new appeal.
The roots of the conflict go back to the period of the Corona pandemic. When Juventus agreed with its players to postpone the payment of part of their salaries, including Ronaldo, whose deferred dues amounted to about 19.5 million euros, based on a special agreement known in the media as the “Ronaldo Card.”
After the player moved to another club in the summer of 2021, the dispute escalated between the two parties over the value of the dues, which prompted them to resort to an arbitration panel that issued a decision in April 2024 stating that Ronaldo was entitled to receive about 9.8 million euros, in addition to the legal interests and related settlements.
In January 2026, the Turin Court rejected a previous appeal submitted by Juventus and confirmed the validity of the arbitration decision, but the club chose to exhaust all levels of litigation by resorting to the Court of Cassation.
On the other hand, the financial report of Juventus Club stated that it had previously included the financial consequences of this case in its accounting books, stressing that it does not expect any additional financial burdens that may burden it in the future, so that the file remains open awaiting the final word of the Italian judiciary.
