Barcelona's path to equaling Real Madrid's historic record

FC Barcelona is one step away from equaling Real Madrid’s historic record in the number of consecutive victories with the start of the Spanish Football League competitions, after it continued its perfect start to the 2026-2027 season, achieving its eighth consecutive victory in the competition.

This achievement, in which the team is led by German coach Hansi Flick, came after Barcelona won with three unanswered goals over its guest Getafe, on Saturday, in the eighth round matches, thus equaling the team’s best start in its Catalan history, which it achieved in the 2013-2014 season under the leadership of former Argentine coach Tata Martino.

On the next continental and local level, Barcelona is preparing to play an upcoming European test against Galatasaray in Turkey next Tuesday in the Champions League, followed by a match against Real Betis in the league on October 17, then a strong confrontation against French Paris Saint-Germain on the 20th of the same month, leading up to hosting traditional rivals Real Madrid in the El Clásico match on October 25 at Barcelona Stadium.

On the other hand, Real Madrid will host Italian club Roma in the Champions League on October 14, before hosting Sevilla locally on October 18, and then facing German Leipzig in Europe on the 21st of the same month. After that, attention will turn to the Clásico summit, in which Barcelona seeks to strengthen its lead and continue its record, while the Royal Club aspires to reduce the gap and ignite the competition for the title.

Flick and his battalion face a real challenge to maintain this rising trend in light of the crowded match schedule and the difficulty of the upcoming matches, amid overwhelming ambitions to maintain the Spanish League title and hold the club’s historical record.
