The text is full of solidarity: Kanaan responds to the insults from a position of strength and affirms that no one is above the law
Yesterday, MP Ibrahim Kanaan received in his office in Jdeidet El Matn a large crowd that included mayors, mayors, and members of the municipal council, in addition to popular delegations and activists from various towns in El Matn. This meeting came in solidarity with Kanaan and in rejection of the personal attacks directed at him by two people from the Ruwaisat area through a video recording that was recently circulated.
The heavy attendance reflected a strong popular rally around Representative Kanaan, in a scene that was accompanied by an intense deployment of the Lebanese army that extended from Al-Jdeideh Square opposite the municipality all the way to the office’s vicinity, despite the threats that preceded the organization of the protest. Kanaan responded to the campaign from a position of strength, sending a clear message that threats and abuse cannot impose a fait accompli, and that every dispute has limits that should not be crossed.
In his speech to the attendees, Kanaan stressed that development is a basic right for everyone, explaining that any objection must be addressed exclusively through institutions and under the law.
The participants in the meeting affirmed their categorical rejection of intimidation methods, considering that “the era of bullying has ended” and that no one is above the law or accountability. The attendees stressed that raising objections must be through institutional channels, stressing that threats and insults will never be a way to impose opinions or silence voices defending dignity.
