Beirut's fears of a settlement: The Families Union refuses to give up independence

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received, in the Government Serail, a delegation from the Federation of Beirut Families Associations, headed by Engineer Walid Kebbi, on a protocol visit devoted to presenting the Federation’s progress and its most prominent goals, as well as the results of the recent elections for its administrative body.

During the meeting, the President of the Union, which was founded in 1997, briefed President Salam on the history of the institution and its continuing role in serving the issues of the capital and its people, reviewing the atmosphere of the administrative elections and the spirit of positive family competition that characterizes them.

In a statement after the meeting, Engineer Kibbi affirmed that the union fully adheres to its independence and distances it from any political alignments. This allows him to freely perform his role in approaching Beirut’s needs, and conveying the concerns and demands of its residents to officials in order to find effective solutions for them.

He also pointed out that the Union’s plan of action for the next stage is based on encouraging Beiruti families to establish their own associations in accordance with legal procedures, and to join the Union’s umbrella, which contributes to expanding its representative base and enhancing the effectiveness of its movements and demand efforts.
