Switzerland withdraws its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino

The Executive Committee of the Swiss Football Association has withdrawn its support for the President of FIFA, the Swiss-Italian Gianni Infantino, reversing the decision it issued last June.

The committee explained in an official statement that this shift came “following a comprehensive reassessment of the developments witnessed in the past few months,” noting that the recent incidents “raise fundamental questions regarding the style of leadership, governance, transparency, and decision-making processes within FIFA.”

This position comes to place Infantino (56 years old) under increasing pressure and widespread criticism, ahead of the FIFA presidential elections scheduled to be held next March in Morocco. These developments come against the backdrop of the crisis sparked by his controversial project to open the doors of FIFA to private investors, a project that he was later forced to abandon as a result of the widespread wave of continental and international rejection.
