Historic acquisition: A famous French club is sold for only one euro

French football club Bordeaux announced the official transfer of its ownership to the American investment fund Park Bench, in a deal aimed at saving the ancient club from its devastating financial crises.

The deal was concluded for a symbolic fee of one euro, with the new owner’s commitment to bear the club’s debts, which French media estimated at approximately 18 million euros. The club described in an official statement this step as a decisive step towards rebuilding its future.

Under this acquisition, former owner Gerard Lopez leaves Bordeaux, bringing the curtain down on a turbulent period that lasted five years, which witnessed the decline of the French League champions for the 2008-2009 season in a dramatic manner from the ranks of elite clubs to the sixth division, in one of the worst football collapses in modern French history.

It is noteworthy that the “Park Bench” Fund, which is owned by the American Evan Soffer and the British James Borde, is active in the investment, software and data analysis sectors.
