In statements to the “Lebanon Debate” website on the sidelines of the Lebanese-Syrian Investment Forum, Ahmed Hashemi stressed that the paramount importance of the forum lies in enhancing rapprochement between the two peoples and opening a new page in bilateral relations, especially at the economic and investment levels.
Hashimiyeh explained that the previous stage was characterized by “an authoritarian Syrian regime that caused many problems and imposed agreements and arrangements that were not based on equality,” adding that the scene today is different in light of “a new Syria headed by Ahmed al-Sharaa, who began the path of economic advancement.” He pointed out that the goal of the conference is to exchange experiences, and to link investment and the private sector with governments and ministries to discuss various files, dispel concerns, and find appropriate solutions.
He stressed the need for the next stage to be based on clear and fair understandings and agreements between the two sides, pointing out that the presence of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam contributes to following up on these agreements and working to amend what he described as “unfair agreements against Lebanon.”
Hashemite concluded by emphasizing that the forum represents a real opportunity to establish a new path of economic and investment cooperation, in a way that serves the promotion of common interests between the two countries.
