Capitals – US President Donald Trump cut short his weekend at the Camp David resort and suddenly returned to the White House 24 hours before his scheduled return date, coinciding with the escalation of regional tensions in the Middle East.
Axios confirmed that Trump arrived at the White House on Saturday evening, while the White House declined to provide any clarifications regarding the reasons for this early return.
The US President’s move coincided with the US State Department issuing a high-level security warning, calling on its citizens residing in the Middle East to be extremely cautious, pointing to a “complex” security environment that warns of the possibility of an “unexpected escalation.”
The US State Department explained that the Houthis, supported by Iran, were involved in hostilities that targeted the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and included civilian airports, warning of the consequences of a “rapid escalation” of events.
In this context, the Ministry urged American citizens outside the region to seriously reconsider their travel plans there or through its air, and also called on residents there to prepare for the possibility of canceling flights, or closing airspace, and the subsequent widespread disruptions in travel.
The State Department concluded its warning by noting the possibility that Iran or groups loyal to it may target American interests abroad, which include sites, companies, and institutions associated with the United States and its citizens.
