Representative Adeeb Abdel Masih condemned the attack on former Minister Essam Sharaf El-Din, stressing his full solidarity with him and the depositors in their just case to recover their seized funds.
In a tweet posted on his account on the “X” platform, Abdel Masih stressed that “the attack on the former minister, friend Essam Sharaf El-Din, is rejected, condemned, and denounced, no matter how many reasons and excuses there are,” adding: “He is Sharaf El-Din by identity, but he is Essam Sharaf of the depositors by right. It is an honor for me to defend him because I am one of them.” He called on those concerned to return the stolen money to its owners, saying: “Let them return our money to us and you will not see any of them on the road. Their place is already decent homes and a respectable retirement from the sweat of their brows, and we do not want anyone.”
On Thursday, September 17, former Minister Issam Sharaf El-Din suffered a head injury following a dispute that occurred during a protest movement organized by the “Depositors’ Cry” association in the capital, Beirut. The movement began in front of the government palaces, reaching the Ministry of Finance and then the Ministry of Economy.
In the same context, the head of the “Depositors’ Cry” Association, Alaa Khorshid, explained in a statement to the “Lebanon Debate” website that Sharaf al-Din was injured in the head as a result of friction and beatings during a dispute with the security forces while the protesters were moving from the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Economy.
It is noteworthy that this move came in protest against the government plan aimed at addressing the financial and banking crisis, and to demand the full return of deposits, as well as the insistence of depositors to participate in any discussions or decisions regarding the fate of their money.
